Ekka People’s Day Parade Praised for Crowd Control

People's Day Crowd

The Ekka is the annual agricultural show and public holiday in Queensland, Australia. Celebrated in Brisbane for ten days each August, the Ekka is organized by the Royal National Agricultural and Industrial Association of Queensland (RNA).

People’s day is one of the central events during the 10-day holiday, and in the past, the festivities have experienced a number of crowd problems as attendance numbers have exceeded 500,000.

This year, event officials planned ahead. More personnel and crowd control equipment, including barricades and belt barriers, led to the most successful People’s Day Parade in recent history.

The most significant point from the report done by the Brisbane Times was made in regards to the event sales. There were over 50,000 strawberry sundaes sold and more than 100,000 dagwood dogs.

As the reporter in the video states, “big crowds mean big sales.” And if the organizers are praised for their control of the crowds (as they were this week), you can be sure the sales will only increase each year.
